Apple is introducing new tools to comply with the increasing age certification regulations in the United States and overseas. As part of the change, apples will limit the downloading of rating 18+ applications in Brazil, Australia and Singapore, while introducing additional features to comply with United States law.

Apple informed developers on Tuesday that it was expanding its “Age Assurance” tool set to include an updated version of “API declaration of age range” for use in the test version. These tools allow developers to access the age range of users without the need for personal information such as the date of birth of the users. As more and more Governments around the globe have enacted laws to restrict or discourage specific applications, such as social media, which are restricted to adults over 18 years of age, such technological solutions are applied. In Brazil, developers can use the declared age range API to obtain the age categories of users (if the user or their parents or guardians choose to share them). In addition, from that date, apples will prevent users in Australia, Brazil and Singapore from downloading the 18+ application until it is certified as an adult. In this case, App Store will automatically enforce age recognition, but Apple points out that developers may still have to meet their respective compliance requirements.

In addition, the game under the flag, which contains trophy boxes (which the legislator believes should not be accessible to children), will be specifically updated to reflect the 18+ audience. In the United States, age categories for new users in Utah and Louisiana will soon be shared with developers through the declared age range API. Apple indicated that other tools around age ratings and competencies had been expanded to meet its compliance obligations. The official Apple statement states: “API has now provided new signals, including whether it uses age-related statutory requirements for users and whether users need to share their age range. The API will also inform you that, for child users, a major application requires the consent of the parent or guardian.”

In October last year, Apple tried to comply with a similar age guarantee requirement in Texas, but some of its plans were set aside in December because the state ‘ s laws were challenged in court. Last year, Apple also updated its age-rating system, providing a more sophisticated age segment than before and adding a new set of questions to developers who submitted their applications to Apple Audit.
